These delights come to us from the Brotherhood of Saint Lawrence on Broadway, in Sydney. I was drawn to the orange spines of the old-school Penguins like a small child to the lolly aisle of the supermarket. Or like myself to the lolly aisle of the supermarket. Some of the old Penguin designs are quite astounding, as you can see by perusing Penguin By Design by Phil Baines. The book itself is very nice, too – I’m a fan of the cover and the nice clean internal design. Less attractive, but equally replete with Penguin covers, is 700 Penguins. What’s with the crappy paper stock used for the cover? It feels like it was done on the cheap.

The above photo is an image from Penguin By Design – not from an op shop (oh, I can but dream…)
